Won't you take me to FuNkY ToWn?

Today was a lovely day! Every Friday (is it seriously Friday already?) we have a fieldtrip in London. This time we first went to John Keat's house. Can you believe all the writers that lived and learned in this country? He only lived there for two years, but it is where he wrote most of his most famous poetry. It was the peak of his writing career, seeing that he died when he was only 26. This is a picture of me sitting under the plum tree in his yard, listening to a nightengale, writing a poem in my mind. Just like Keats. (He wrote Ode to a Nightengale at this house under a plum tree). I like learning about all these writers and then seeing their houses or their original handwriting. Everything I learn is so applicable to real life. In London at least.
Then we trotted over to Hampstead Heath, which is just a lot of land. It was a nice walk. We ended up at Kenwood House, which is just a cool mansion that was owned by some Earl in 1925. He collected incredible art by Rembrandt, Turner, Reynolds and many more. I even found a tiny little painting by John Constable. The house is completely separated from the city, and it feels like you're in the countryside. It is also in the movie Notting Hill, the scene where Hugh Grant goes to find Julia Roberts while she's filming for her next movie. The library in this house was memorable, it had tons of old books and the ceilings were all paintings, and were decorated with gold. It was fun because I'm learning some mythology in my Classical Civ. class and I sometimes recognize paintings better. I love libraries now. Oh wait, I forgot, I actually just love everything I see now. My favorite thing that happened to me in this house was that as I was walking through the last room I saw a painting that I've seen many times before. Dear family who is reading this: remember the painting of the lady in the lacy dress that the Rymers have by their dinner table? Well, I ALWAYS noticed it, and I always looked at it during dinner, and today I came across the original! It's called Mary Countess Howe by Gainsborough. It's funny how a painting means so much more when you have a past connection to it, or you've learned about it before. Anyways, I thought that was super exiting. I was like, awwwww the Rymers!! And then I started reminiscing about famiy dinner with them. Anyhoo, the painting was really lovely in real life.

After leaving Hamstead Heath, we went to Camden Market, which I didn't really care for last time I went, but today I found out that I barely saw any of it last time. It is soooo fun. Markets are the BEST. Camden is punk rockish, and the crowd is totally different. The best thing ever is that there is a toooootally retro section that is wholly dedicated to retro thrift stores. I was in heaven. The REAL problem is that since they can say that their clothing is vintage, they think they can charge waaay too much for it. So that's kind of a bummer. But it's ok, because as long as those stores keep blasting 70's funk and selling ugly sweaters, moon boots, and sequin disco dresses, I'll always be inclined to pay a visit. Seriously, my shopping heaven. And it's further proof that I was born in the wrong generation. Nobody understands me.
I ate some freshly made sugar doughnuts at Camden, and I will now write the direct quote from my mouth after my first bite: "AAAHHHHH THIS IS THE BEST DOUGHNUT I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!". And I meant it. I will never eat another doughnut again. I want to remember that moment forever. Hence the reason I'm writing so much about it. ahhhhhhhh
I am now so officially tired that I think I could sleep through World War 3, or even more impressive, I could probably sleep through my roomates getting ready for bed. This week is reeeeally catching up to me, I'm pooped. Tomorrow is Saturday thank heavens, and I plan on using it to it's full extent, as time is running out!
I already am getting home sick for London, and it's not even near time to leave yet. Explain that.

  2. I just watched Notting Hill and I was thinking of you the whole time. How did you make that cool header on your blog? Teach me. Also, you blog is one of my top sites. It just distracted me from what I was actually going to do.

  3. Wow. Your sister wrote on your blog at 2:30 am. She is tough. I like your purse in your header photo, (as well as your face). Remember when we bought that all together?
I wore your ski pants and coat skiing yesterday. I just couldn't take mine another day. Thanks for the loan.
