Meant To Be

Croissants for breakfast, and straight to the Orangerie which is another impressionist museum. They have Monet's water lilies. Like, I know every museum ever has Monet's water lilies, but they have THE water lilies. Two rooms of them, and the canvases stretch all around the room so it's a big panorama of ponds and lilies. I can't believe one man painted so much in his one lifetime. Sheesh. They were beautiful.
Then I went downstairs and I really liked Monet's Argenteuil, which was one of my favorites. Small, but very good. It looks like one in the hallway at home. I had a total sentimental sister moment when I came upon Renoir's "Two girls at the piano". I wish this painting was banned from textbooks and the internet, because it's kinda cheesy looking when it's not the original. Seriously, the original is so so so pretty and he really captures something. I happened to have my ipod with me that day, so I pulled it out and listened to Ann and I singing "Some things are meant to be" from Little Women while I looked at it, because we stand by the piano like that everytime we are both at home. It was precious to say the least.

We then headed off to see the Rodin museum, and we ate at a bakery on the way. Though everything looked delicious, I chose just a plain baguette just so I could say I had one. Well, it was like 2 feet long- and that was lunch.
The Rodin museum is cool because it's a garden with his sculptures everywhere. The thinking man was neat, and I liked this guy too. He is "the spirit of meditation" or something. (I think that just means that if you do yoga, your body will look like this).

Our small group then split up because half of them wanted to go to the market, and half of them wanted to go the catacombs where there are piles of sculls and bones.
I chose to see the dead people, and off we went. The catacombs were NUTS. I guess like 200 years ago they ran out of burial space so they dug up all these mass graves and put them nicely in this old mine, and then charge people to come see it. Totally worth it. These walls of bones went on for EVER. I don't even want to think about how many people I walked past. I kind of hope to be near that spot during the resurecction.... it will be quite humorous.
Turns out we totally had time to go to the French market too! So we hopped back onto the Metro- my pass wasn't working so I had to jump over all the entry things like a thief. I'm lucky that I'm not stuck in French prison right now- and headed to "rue mouffetard" which is the market. They had ice cream that they made look like flower petals in the cone, and crepes that were the best I've had yet. I had an amazing savory crepe with ham and egg and stuff like that. mmmmm.
We had like 2 hours left, so we spent it meandering around the less touristy streets and just looking around. I love streets, in London and France- they are so cute to look at.
I then went back to the chunnel and headed to my home sweet London!
This was an unforgettable trip, and though I hope to be returing someday, I don't think it will ever be as breathtaking as the first time. I feel SO incredibly lucky to be here! Au revoir!
