March Madness!
AHHHHH it's springtime in London! FINALLY! I woke up yesterday, and I just had that feel-good feeling ya know? I had a huge midterm in political science, and I wasn't even nervous, I was just ready for life. It's because it's March. March is going to be a GOOD month. I can feel it. After my test, my brain was useless. I daydreamed through all my classes because it was March 1st.... the day of the MIKA CONCERT!!!! I stared out the window at the sunny blue-sky day and daydreamed of myself dancing on stage with Mika and his band. (Bad news: I'm being totally serious right now.) So when classes were finally over, I took my ipod to the park and listened to Mika while I fell asleep on a bench in the sun. It was the first time I have gone outside without a coat. It was soooo warm. I could feel the sunshine soaking into my brain and giving me happiness. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... So dinner finally ended and we headed off to the concert.
Now my friends coming with me were not all that exited- they only knew a few of his songs. I was the ONLY #1 Fan, with all the lyrics memorized. We got there early enough that we were standing RIGHT up front, and I was so exited I could barely stop wiggling for the next 2 hours that we were standing there waiting for it to start. I was SO anxious. When the blessed hour of 9:00 finally was upon us, the biggest party of my life began. Mika was incredible, and my gold stretchy pants illuminated light off of my thighs to all the world and it's people. In the end, during his song Lollipop, there was gold confetti and rainbow streamers snowing alllll over us, and giant balloons bouncing all over the crowd. Mika sure knows how to throw a party. And by the end, all my friends who accompanied me wanted to be #1 fans like me. It was the most joyful 2 hours ever. When we walked out of there, my knees and feet were aching from jumping so much, and I had no voice. All for a wonderful cause. This morning, I woke up and I was SO happy again. This sunshine is doing WONDERS for me. I ate a lovely waffle and strawberry breakfast, then I did some homework, then I coudn't stand being inside any longer so I ran. I think it was a personal record, (which is definitely not saying much haha) but I ran for like 45 minutes because it
felt so good. I ran all the way to the other end of Hyde park and discovered cool new places.
The lawns at the parks here have random flowers growing all over- like the grass has patches of flowers just popping up everywhere. They are starting to bloom right about now, it's the BEST. I ran around the pond, but I had to dodge so many birds (I swear they try to dive-bomb people) that I chose to go elsewhere. The only reason I'm writing all this is to just tell you all how wonderful March is! It's spring! It's sunny, less windy, and warmer. After class we went to Regence park to play, but the play toys (yes, the little kid play toys) were under construction. But it was sooooo pretty it didn't matter. And once again- outside without a coat. Woot WOOT!
After the park we went to Big Ben and Parliment, because that's just the best place you can ever be. I don't know what it is about Ben but I could stare at him forever. It's wierd to me that it's just normal to walk past Big Ben on any average day, I live in London. Wierd and crazy. ...And amazing. One of our first couple of days in London I remember we had a lesson about culture shock and yada, yada, yada. I don't remember it much but I DO remember Bro. Shuler saying that it takes a lot of time to become bi-cultural. To be completely accepting of everything about a different place is not something that happens fast. He talked about how emailing and skyping a lot, eating foods that remind you of home, and being bothered by things like their driving or their food or their money system are all signs that you are not yet bicultural. I think within the last week or so I've finally reached (or almost reached) that point.
I forget that I even have an email account, where I used to check it every time I walked in my room. I think London is the prettiest place in the world, when I used to think about Utah and it's mountains ALL the time. (ok, I still miss the mountains). But really, London has stolen my heart. There is so much for me here, and I find out more every day. I can't believe so much time has gone by... make it STOP!
